Nesting Swan

I spy with my little eye… a nesting swan at Green Park!

Our Biodiversity Team have spotted a pair of swans beginning to nest on Longwater Lake. The pair are using broken reeds and twigs to weave together a huge nest where the female will lay up to nine eggs.
Both swans have been seen chasing other waterfowl away from the surrounding lake area, which is typical behaviour when swans prepare to nest. The female will not start incubating the eggs until she has completely finished laying. She will then incubate the eggs for 35 – 41 days. This usually occurs during late April and early May.

We will catch up with the pair again in a couple of weeks.
