The River Thames rises in the Cotswolds and winds its way through beautiful countryside en route to Greenwich. Among the cities and towns built on the river are Oxford, Reading, Henley and Windsor.
The region's excellent transport network gives you quick and easy access to any destination across the south. Travel west and you can visit Bath, Bristol and Cheltenham. If you go east, you'll be London bound.
The south coast is also within easy reach where you can either head for a quiet beach or into the busy centres of Brighton, Southampton and Bournemouth.
You'll never be stuck for things do out and about in the Thames Valley. From country walks to city trips, there's a whole range opportunities to make the most of your free time.
For the family
There are lots of great places for family visits, from zoos and country parks to castles and museums. Legoland is just outside Windsor and The Living Rainforest is north of Newbury. If you don't mind getting wet, head for the flumes and rapids of Bracknell's Coral Reef water park.
Down by the river
If you fancy a stroll along the Thames, popular spots within easy reach of Reading include Goring, Sonning, Whitchurch and Pangbourne. At Henley there's the added attraction of races and regattas, along with the excellent River and Rowing Museum.
Walking
If you're a keen walker, the Thames Path and Ridgeway National Trails offer a network of routes.
